What is Beginner Archery?

overview

Beginner Lessons are for students that have never taken an archery lesson at AJ Archery or have had very little training in archery. Coach AJ will determine the class level needed for each archer.

The Basic Intro to Archery class: Prior to a first Group lesson, each archer will need to take the Basic Intro to Archery class. We review safety and range rules, basic equipment, stretching and shooting form. It lasts about an hour with usually several students in the class. Since Coach AJ’s lessons are open to join at any time, these classes are scheduled as needed for new students.

During Beginner Lessons, students will learn stretching, hydration, some conditioning, mental management and archery shooting form along with equipment. Students will begin shooting fewer arrows into a blank bale and a 10-ring target in their lessons. They will progress to shooting an increasing amount of arrows into more complicated targets. Distance to target will begin with either 20' or 30' progressing to 40'. Evaluations of students will be continual with attention to increasing archery equipment knowledge, shooting form and aiming skills using different targets along with use of mental management with limited distraction training using music.
