Coach AJ Berning-Matell
Coach AJ enjoys spending time with family especially her four grandchildren. Ericka, Frederick, Max and Miles are often with their "Busia" (Polish for grandma) reading books, playing with trains, visiting the Zoo or attending a concert or game.
An avid outdoorswoman and sports fan, Coach AJ is a huge Green Bay Packers fan, and both a UT Rocket football and a Toledo Walleye season ticket holder. She is a choir member at her Church and a dedicated Parish volunteer.
Very involved in the Community, Coach AJ serves on several boards and committees including being a former President of the LWV-TLC. Since 1993, she has been involved with the ESC-BSA and serves on the Shooting Sports Committee as the Archery Advisor and as a Troop Committee member.
Coach AJ has an extreme amount of patience and a passion for archery that together create her keen coaching style. Her students hear her say, "It's all about Form and not the little yellow dot down there" as she leads them in their use of mental management. She coaches as if a "hawk on a mouse" while being relaxed in her approach easing any students' apprehension. This attitude makes her especially responsive while teaching students with special needs and challenges.
